SHEQONOMI has been entirely self-funded since its founding during the COVID-19 pandemic — built from a kitchen table, backed by a generous grant from the Islamic Development Bank — by a mother and daughter who believed that rewarding women and girls for every minute of learning was not just a smart business model.It is both our moral obligation and greatest opportunity to invest in other women and girls.

SHEQONOMI hosted an official Meetup at Web Summit Qatar 2025 — the Night Summit on February 25, 2025 at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center, West Bay, Doha, Qatar. Anu Bhardwaj represented SHEQONOMI alongside co-organizers podcastHERS, The State of Women Institute, and Women Investing in Women Digital. The event brought together women founders, tech leaders, and podcast creators from across the Middle East, South Asia, and beyond. SHEQONOMI was featured at the iHeart House podcast studio, the Ooredoo booth, and the Startup Qatar / Invest Qatar pavilion. Anu delivered the keynote "SHEQONOMI: Digital Inclusion, Investing, and a She-Economy Powered by Women & Girls," presenting SHEQONOMI's global reach across 4 continents and its partnership with JIO & Reliance to reach over two billion women. Anu also served as a judge on the LEAP Rocket Fuel Start-Up Pitch Competition panel alongside Regina Njima (Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Kizo Ventures), Sardar Ahmed Durrani (Partner, The Osiris Group), Vladimir Bataev (Managing Partner, Zaz Ventures), and Omar Khasawneh (Startup Incubation Lead, KAUST). SHEQONOMI produces Blockchain on the Beach Barbados — October 7–9, 2022 at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Under the patronage of Her Excellency Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, the event marks the official launch of Krypto for Kids Caribbean — bringing blockchain education, financial inclusion, and women's empowerment to the Caribbean. Co-chaired by Grammy-nominated singer Shontelle Layne, with sessions livestreamed via SHEQONOMI Global. An invited-only gathering of 100 digital leaders, parents, teachers, and youth from across Barbados, Bermuda, Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad & Tobago, and Haiti. Partners included UWI Cave Hill, NFT Kids Mag, Algorand, CryptoChicks, Global Women in Blockchain, and Nature's Discount Nutrition Center. On March 28, 2014, Anu Bhardwaj and her daughter Arya Bhardwaj — at just 3.5 years old — co-hosted their very first radio show together, Women Investing in Women & Girls, on Voice America Kids.
The show launched at the Clinton Global Initiative in Phoenix, Arizona, with Penny Abeywardena and Maura Palley. Surrounded by extraordinary role models, Arya learned the importance of using her voice from leaders who would become lifelong friends, allies, and mentors:
